Jailbroken iPhone 3GS + MyWi uses to Cover Bahrain Protests

James Lawler Duggan, a journalist covering ongoing protests and violence in Bahrain, used his jailbroken iPhone 3GS and MyWi 4.0 tethering app to transfer photos from Bahrain to the Associated Press wire in Cairo.

After capturing several photographs, Duggan found that the internet connectivity was too slow to upload images. He then used his iPhone 3GS + MyWi and transmitted the photos to the AP wire in Cairo. MyWi 4.0 allow you to create a WiFi Hotspot to share 3G connection with other PCs and devices such as iPhone. In other words, MyWi turns your jailbroken iPhone into a WiFi router.
“My jailbroken 3GS running MyWi 4.0 proved to be the only way for me to get the images to Cairo, and even still, the resolution had to be dropped significantly to squeeze them through the pipeline,” Duggan told us via email.
Well, lately Apple is providing the Personal Hotspot functionality. Verizon’s iPhone 4 is shipped with Personal Hotspot capability out of box. However, there is no ETA for AT&T to turn on the Personal Hotspot capability. As of now, AT&T users has to rely on  MyWi 4.0.
