8s Step-By-Step Instructions To Enable HD Video Recording On iPhone 3GS

HD video recording
If you own an iPhone 3GS, you may be aware that it does not quite match the video recording capabilities of the recently launched iPhone 4. The latest iPhone model captures videos in HD format whereas videos on iPhone 3GS are captured at just 640x480 pixel resolution.
However, if you are not looking to upgrade your iPhone anytime soon, here is a trick to start capturing HD videos on your iPhone 3GS.

Here are the step-by-step instructions to enable HD video recording on your iPhone 3GS.

Step 1: You need a jailbroken iPhone for this procedure. Please note that jailbreaking your iPhone may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution.
Step 2: If you are a Mac user, click here to download the Cyberduck application for Mac. Windows users need to click here to download the WinSCP application.
Step 3: You will now need to configure the settings of Cyberduck and WinSCP.
Cyberduck
Server: Enter the IP address of your iPhone 3GS. You can navigate to Settings –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name> on your iPhone to view this
Username: root
Password: Your SSH password. The default password is “alpine
Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)
WinSCP
Hostname: The IP address of your iPhone 3GS. Go to Settings –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name> to view this on your iPhone
User name: root
Password: alpine (or the SSH password that you have set)
Protocol: SCP
Step 4: Click here to download the HDVideo3GS-rev3.zip file to your computer.
Step 5: If you do not have OpenSSH jailbreak app already installed, launch the Cydia app and install it on your jailbroken iPhone. Please note: Using terminal applications like OpenSSH can be pretty risky and could require you to restore your iPhone if it is not done correctly. Proceed with caution and as always, do it at your own risk.
Step 6: Connect iPhone 3GS to your computer. Ensure that iTunes is not running.
Step 7: Copy the following three files from the HDVideo3GS-rev3.zip file (AVCapture.plist, CameraRollValidator.plist and MediaValidator.plist) to the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/N88/ directory on your iPhone 3GS using Cyberduck or WinSCP.
Step 8: Reboot your iPhone 3GS to complete the process.
You should now be able to record HD videos on your iPhone 3GS

Update iPhone 3GS / 3G Baseband to 06.15.00 with PwnageTool 4.1.3 for iOS 4.2.1 Unlock

Follow the instructions posted below to update your iPhone 3GS or 3G to 06.15.00 baseband and jailbreak it on iOS 4.1 /4.2.1.

STEP 1: Download iPad 3.2.2 firmware file from here (Required for 06.15.00 baseband).
STEP 2: Download the required iOS 4.2.1 or iOS 4.1 firmware file.
STEP 3: Download PwnageTool 4.1.3 from here.
STEP 4: Start PwnageTool 4.1.3 and point it to iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1 firmware file.

STEP 5: You'll now be asked if you want to update your baseband to the 06.15 version. If you are on 05.14 or 05.15 or higher you will need to do this to unlock. You do not need to do this for jailbreak only. Click on YES and then select Browse for IPSW and point it to iOS 3.2.2 you downloaded.

STEP 6: You'll have to choose some options as installing Cydia packages, custom logos and packages. Finally, hit the blue the build button.
STEP 7: You'll be asked to save the cooked firmware. Please allow up to 10 minutes.

STEP 8: When prompted if your iPhone has been Pwned before, we clicked No. It allows for a more thorough restore. Once done, follow the instructions seen on the screen to enter into DFU mode

STEP 9: Now, You will have to restore your iPhone to the jailbroken custom firmware by Clicking on the iPhone icon on the left sidebar of iTunes then hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” then release the alt button, Now Select the custom firmware created by PwnageTool and Let iTunes go in a bunch of steps.

STEP 10: Almost done, you can now unlock your iPhone 3GS / 3G by searching and install ultrasn0w v.1.2 from Cydia.

Update iPhone 3GS / 3G Baseband to 06.15.00 with Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for iOS 4.2.1 Unlock

Note: This release of Redsn0w is mainly targeted for iPhone 3GS & 3G users on iOS 4.1 / 4.2.1 who rely on a carrier unlock.

Follow the instructions posted below to update your iPhone 3GS or 3G to 06.15.00 baseband and jailbreak it on iOS 4.1 /4.2.1.

Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS or 3G.
Step 2: Update/Restore to iOS 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.
Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and browse to iOS 4.2.1 firmware to proceed with the jailbreak.

Step 4: Now select “Install Cydia” & “Install iPad baseband” options and then click “Next” to continue. Redsn0w will now fetch the exploitable 06.15.00 baseband from 3.2.2 firmware and will replace it the baseband in iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1.

Note: Install iPad baseband option is applicable to iPhone 3GS & 3G users only who rely on a carrier unlock.

Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 6: Sit back and enjoy while Redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware, with the unlockable 06.15.00 baseband.

For iPhone 4, 3GS (New Bootrom), iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G, iPad ONLY:

Step 7: Now from here onwards, whenever you want to do anything related to jailbreak like SSHing into your device, or running Cydia, you must first run your device in the so called “jailbroken state” on every reboot by using “Just boot tethered right now” option in Redsn0w.

How to: Unlock iPhone 3GS & 3G on iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1:

Step 2:
Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on any baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.2 from Cydia. To do this:
  • Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.
  • Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
  • Now touch on “Sources".

  • Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type http://repo666.ultrasn0w.comand touch on“Add Source” to add this repo if you haven’t already.

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.
  • After installation is completed. Search for “ultrasn0w 1.2” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier.

Step 3: Now simply restart your iPhone and voila! you should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 3GS or 3G, running iOS 4.2.1 !!! Ultrasn0w 1.2.

Unlock for iPhone 3GS and 3G on iOS 4.2.1 Released !

As promised, the iPhone Dev-Team has released the necessary carrier unlocking tools which can unlock the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware on iPhone 3GS and 3G on basebands later than 05.13.04. Since iPhone 4 has different baseband OS, It'll take a little while longer for the Dev Team to unlock it on the latest firmware.

From the iPhone Dev Team Blog:
Today we're pleased to announce our free carrier unlock for iPhone3G/3GS owners with a baseband later than 05.13.04.  The unlock for that baseband exploited the AT+XAPP command, thanks to a crash initially discovered by @sherif_hashim (@Oranav also found this crash).  So what hole are we exploiting today, since Apple closed that AT+XAPP hole?  Well, we're exploiting the exact same hole!
It turns out that the very first iPad firmware 3.2.2 has baseband version 06.15.00 still vulnerable to AT+XAPP. The iPad baseband is built for the exact same baseband chip as the iPhone3G/3GS — they're fully compatible!  Some of us have been running 06.15 for weeks now on our iPhones in preparation for this release.
SIMPLIFIED VERSION:
  1. Read and fully understand the warning below.
  2. Download this IPSW
  3. Run PwnageTool to create a custom 4.1 IPSW.  Tell it you want to use the iPad baseband you just downloaded.  Restore to this custom IPSW.
  4. Install ultrasn0w through Cydia
  5. Enjoy!
  6. If you don't have a Mac, redsn0w will be released within a few hours to handle this.
FULL VERSION:
Since 06.15 is a higher version than 05.14 or 05.15 (where AT+XAPP is gone), anyone stuck at those versions can simply upgrade to 06.15 to unlock again!  Luckily for us, Apple *still* provides the iPad FW 3.2.2 with this vulnerable baseband right from their own servers. (Grab it now, before they take it down!)
We've been busy updating both PwnageTool and redsn0w to make the baseband update as seamless as possible.
  1. First up is "PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition".  It has a special dialog box which will ask you if you want to update to the iPad baseband.  You must already have the iPad 3.2.2 IPSW on your computer (see the above link)….so just point PwnageTool at it (or let it find it on its own if you're in "simple" mode).
  2. Directly after PwnageTool 4.1.3 is available, the official ultrasn0w repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com will be updated with ultrasn0w 1.2, which covers iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and now 06.15.00.
  3. Finally, we'll release an update to redsn0w today for those without Macs and can't run PwnageTool.  The new redsn0w will give you the option to update your baseband to 06.15 too.
WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!  PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.
  1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there's no hiding the baseband version from Apple.  You'll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
  2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won't be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn't update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
  3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won't ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail).  You'll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you're unlocker you should already be doing that).
Certainly don't update to 06.15 if you don't need to!  Only do this if you need the unlock and you're stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you're willing to assume the above risks.
This PwnageTool also contains a 4.2.1 bundle for iPhone3G owners…for all else, it's still only 4.1.  If you have an iPhone3GS with an old bootrom, the new redsn0w will handle 4.2.1 for you (in fact it covers 4.2.1 for all devices, even though some of them are still tethered at 4.2.1 until @comex can work some untethering magic).  iPhone3GS users with old bootroms who want to go to 4.2.1 should not use this PwnageTool!  Update to stock 4.2.1 first, then use the upcoming redsn0w to update your baseband.
Please feel free to use our comments section for questions.  We have some very knowledgeable and helpful moderators: angiepangie, Confucious, dhlizard, and Frank55!

First tool to unlock Windows Phone 7 revealed, is called "ChevronWP7: "

A team of WP7 developers have released a tool “ChevronWP7” to unlock Windows Phone 7 devices. The developers have been working to get access into Windows Phone 7 core and they were progressing steadily. Since some time they were silent on how much progress has been made. Today, they have unleashed a simple and elegant tool to unlock Windows Phone 7.
chevronwp7 ChevronWP7: First tool to unlock Windows Phone 7 revealedYou might be looking for a reason to unlock Windows Phone 7 device
it’ll be beneficial to indie developers who want to push beyond the limitations of the Silverlight framework and SDK – including but not limited to access to the microphone and camera. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could override the Bing search button?
The official information regarding this tool is
Today we have an exciting breakthrough for the Windows Phone 7 homebrew community – the ability for anyone to unlock a WP7 device without a Marketplace developer account.
Unlocking allows the sideloading of experimental applications that would otherwise can’t be published to the Marketplace, such as those which access private or native APIs.
We’ve taken the pain out of the process involved and put together a super simple executable that will allow anyone to unlock any WP7 device on the market using a USB cable and just a couple clicks.
This tool is completely safe and reversible for the phone. (The app even allows you to relock the phone.)
Happy Thanksgiving with unlocked Windows Phone 7!

UberTwitter App Arrives on the iPhone

UberTwitter is one of the more popular Twitter clients which was previously exclusively available for BlackBerry users, accounting for more than 10 million tweets each day. It has now become available on the iPhone due to the growing success of the iOS mobile platform.
Apart from offering standard Twitter features like tweeting, re-tweeting, direct messaging and link shortening, the major distinguishing feature is UberView, which allows access to links within tweets without exiting out of the app or even opening a new window within it.
Holding the device horizontally moves the app into the landscape view which splits the screen in half, with the tweet on the left hand side and the linked content on the right. Cool features like this are tempting but at present UberTwitter displays ads at the bottom of the screen, which essentially, is distracting and occupies screen real estate.
The final v1.0 release is scheduled to be released in the middle of December.
UberTwitter
Full official press release is as follows:
ŰBERTWITTER, WORLD’S #1 TWITTER APPLICATION, BEGINS OPEN BETA OF IPHONE APP, INCLUDING ŰBERVIEW OF EMBEDDED LINKS FOR EASIER TWEET READING
ŰberTwitter, the world’s most widely used Twitter app for sending and reading tweets, announced today that a beta version of ŰberTwitter for iPhone is now available as a free download from the Apple App Store. Until now, ŰberTwitter has been exclusive to RIM’s BlackBerry devices, where it was one of the first Twitter client apps to be available for the platform and set the standard for features and functionality. Today, more than nine million users have downloaded ŰberTwitter, and they send approximately 10 million tweets a day with the app.
In addition to traditional Twitter client features – such as composing and sending tweets, retweeting, direct messaging and embedded link shortening – ŰberTwitter for iPhone offers an important new feature called ŰberView that makes reading tweets faster and easier. Either by tapping the tweet in portrait mode or turning the phone to landscape mode, users will be able to view and use content from any embedded link (e.g., webpage, photo or video) instantly without leaving the app or opening a new page within it. Over 10,000 people have already downloaded the current beta release and are providing great feedback. The version 1.0 full production release will be available by mid-December, and will incorporate many of the suggestions made by the beta users, as well as a number of other features.
"Given the iPhone’s growing dominance among smartphone users, we wanted to extend our product offering to its users while making sure our app offered features that would complement the platform’s unique functionality," said Paul McDonald, CEO of ŰberTwitter. "For instance, ŰberView will enhance the way users consume content. As more tweets become vehicle for sharing articles, photos and videos, this feature will become ever more indispensable."
"One of the most important aspects of the new ŰberTwitter for iPhone is ŰberView," said Sean Callihan, CEO of Plixi. "Plixi serves millions of images every month to ŰberTwitter users, and our business is all about creating easier and more intuitive ways for customers to share and view images. With ŰberView, ŰberTwitter has once again demonstrated their leadership in the Twitter client space, this time on the iPhone platform."
Additionally, ŰberTwitter will continue to encourage its users to share their suggestions for new features as it did with its original Blackberry offering. Within the app, there is a button where users can submit their ideas, and the feedback will be used to prioritize development efforts on some of the remaining, popular features of the BlackBerry version that have yet to be added to the iPhone beta version.

(No Jailbreak!) Router Makes iPhone Into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

What if you could just plug your iPhone directly into a router with a USB cable and share the 3G data connection with every Wi-Fi device within 200 feet? Now you can, with Nexaira's Business Class 2 tethering-ready router. The router is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.
apple iphone wi-fi hotspot nexaira router tethering
Of course, if your iPhone is not jailbroken, you'll need to enable official tethering with your cellular carrier. AT&T offers iPhone owners tethering for $20 per month. With tethering, simply plug in the Nexaira BC2 router, connect the iPhone via the rear USB port and you're all set. Anywhere with power and a 3G signal becomes a Wi-Fi hotspot.
$20 per month for an iPhone tethering plan is much less than comparable data plans such as Verizon's MiFi or AT&T USBConnect data plans charging $40-60 or more. Nexaira BC2 is the only device to offer direct iPhone tethering compatibility. What else do you get for the purchase price of $190?

The router supports Wi-Fi 802.11 B/G/N and sports 1 WAN input and 1 LAN output. As its name states, the BC2 is a business-class router, with customizable 3G/4G auto-failover with anti-flap. VRRP, GRE, IPSec termination, QoS, WDS, and "Extreme Speed" modem optimization are just some of the acronyms and features included on this router. The device ships to 200 countries worldwide, and an international adapter is available for travelers.

AT&T subscribers with iPhones will need to have the $25 2GB/monthly DataPro plan in order to add the tethering option to their bills. One advantage to using the BC2 as a backup (if your primary ISP goes down) is that tethering can be turned on or off without locking in a long contract. Hopefully we'll see more router manufacturers offer iPhone-compatible devices at even more competitive prices in the future.

iOS 4.2 Features

Apple finally released the long anticipated iOS 4.2  (or iOS 4.2.1) for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

iOS 4.2 brings new features like AirPrint, AirPlay, Find My iPhone besides offering one common platform across all iDevices.
iPad users finally get access to iOS 4 features like Multitasking, Game Center, Folder management and Universal Inbox that were earlier available only on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Please find details of some of the major new features introduced in iOS 4.2:

AirPrint:
AirPrint is Apple’s wireless printing feature. It automatically finds printers on the local network and allows users to print to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software. It currently supports certain HP printers.

AirPlay:
This new feature will let users stream audio and video content from any iOS-based device to the new Apple TV. While video streaming is not possible over the Netflix app, it is worth noting that Apple TV has native support for streaming Netflix videos. We were extremely excited about this feature but are a little disappointed to find out that the feature is available only on the native iPod app and YouTube app rather than any other app, which was available in some of the beta versions of iOS 4.2. You can only stream audio from YouTube videos played in Mobile Safari browser.

Find My iPhone:
Apple now offers the ‘Find my iPhone‘ feature for free to iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 4G users and it can be downloaded as an iOS app from the App Store. As a workaround, users of unsupported devices will need to do the initial set-up using one of the current generations iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Once this is done, the Find My iPhone feature can be accessed from any iOS 4.2 compatible device.

“Find in Page” on Safari:
The Mobile Safari web browser on your iDevice can now search for text from within an open page. This option is now available on the browser’s search box and comes with a toolbar that enables users to navigate through all the instances of a keyword on a single page.
If you are an iPad user, you can finally get access to iOS 4 features that were earlier available only on the iPhone and iPod Touch. These include applications like Multitasking, Game Center, Folder management and Universal Inbox.

Multitasking:
iOs 4.2 also includes the much needed multitasking feature for the iPad, which will finally allow users to run some third party apps to run in the background.
Apple has distilled the services that need to run in the background and are providing those services as APIs to developers so that they can add multitasking support in their app while preserving battery life.
The seven multitasking services available to developers are: background audio, voice over IP (VoIP), background location, push notifications, local notifications, task completion, and fast app switching.
iPad users can access seven apps in the task switcher in landscape mode and six apps in portrait mode.

Folder Management:
iOS 4.2 finally brings Folder Management feature to iPad users. Users can add up to 20 apps to a folder thanks to iPad’s bigger screen.
You can currently add only 12 apps in case of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Here is a screengrab of folders on the iPad.

Universal Threaded Mail Application:
The mail app on the new iOS 4.2 for iPad comes with a universal inbox that aggregates messages from multiple email accounts. Users may also choose to view messages in a convenient threaded format.

Mute Switch:
The screen orientation lock switch on the iPad has now been repurposed to serve as the mute switch. With this, users may now access the screen orientation lock from within the multitasking tray. It is worth noting that original promos of the iPad in fact described the physical switch to serve as a mute button though it was reconfigured as a screen orientation switich when it was launched.
iOS 4.2 roundup
Game Center:
Apple’s social gaming network makes its debut on the iPad with iOS 4.2. The Game Center application makes use of the larger screen of the iPad to display a double-column view instead of the standard single column view of the iPhone. The left column contains the lists while the detailed view of stats shall appear on the right column.
iOS 4.2 roundup

iWork for iPad:
Apple had released an iOS version of its iWork productivity suite earlier this year following the launch of the iPad. The company has now rolled out a fresh update to its Keynote, Numbers and Pages application that will make use of the new iOS 4.2 features. You can download these latest updates from the App Store.

Halloween treat: upcoming redsn0w offers pwned-DFU (limera1n) mode…Windows users can then restore to custom IPSW
(tonight’s Halloween redsn0w will also bring back custom bootlogos for iPhone3GS owners with older bootroms)
We can’t legally give URLs to custom IPSWs…Windows unlockers should find a Mac friend to get custom IPSW…then use this upcoming redns0w
For latest redsn0w users: “Just enter pwned DFU mode” is mostly for Windows users.  The “Just boot tethered” is for future

It is Amazing "Watch Free Live TV Shows on Your iPhone and iPad !"

Interested in watching free TV shows on your iPad/iPhone? With a new internet service called FilmOn, you can now watch HD quality television shows from channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BBC, Sky News, ITV and many more right from the comfort of your iPad.
Quality is surprising very very good for a free service with little to no lag during play. Oh and it also includes a-naughty channel for all those of you who like xXx stuff.

The best thing about FilmOn is that it doesn’t require Apple’s approval for any native app, instead, you can browse all the channels provided by the service by navigating to their site FilmOn.com via Safari browser. It also allows you to see TV schedule, pause the live show, search TV guide and so on.
The TV networks who owns these channels are naturally not happy about this free service, and they have filed lawsuits against FilmOn. But Aki David, who is the man behind the service is confident, and “believes that he is legally operating within existing US copyright law and plans to spend heavily to win his legal battle with the networks."
So FilmOn will probably live on, for the time being, anyway.
