Apple and other companies buy the patents Nortel for $ 4.5 billion

A consortium formed by Apple, Microsoft, EMC Corp, Sony Ericsson and RIM has purchased the residual portfolio of patents belonging to the now bankrupt telecommunications company Nortel Networks Corp.

The consortium won an auction that includes 6,000 patents involving telecommunications for a fee which is around 4.5 billion dollars.

Each company has offered a figure for the number of patents that interested her: RIM has paid 770 million dollars, Ericsson is $ 340, while it is still unclear what Apple has offered.

With these patents the companies involved will play a major role in the telecommunications field, especially against those competitors that are not part of the consortium.
