How to Fix iTunes Errors 3200, 3014, 3004, 3002 When Updating to Stock iOS 5 Firmware

UPDATE #1: Some reported that they were able to restore after several attempts. It’s wise to be patientand wait. This is probably Apple’s server is extremely busy to verify your device. It’s still wise to check the steps below.

UPDATE #2: If you have already backed up your device, instead of clicking ‘Update’ on iTunes, download the firmware for your device here first and do ‘Shift+Restore’ on Windows or ‘Option+Restore on Mac. Then select the firmware file you just downloaded.

Trying to update to iOS 5 and getting an iTunes error 3200, 3014, 3004 or 3002? This usually means that iTunes is unable to connect to Apple firmware verification server to get the SHSH Blobs because of yourhosts file. Thankfully, there’s an easy fix.

1. Edit your hosts file:
Windows user go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and open the hosts file with any text editor or Notepad
Mac users go to \etc\ and open the hosts file with any text editor

2. If you tried to restore to stock iOS 5 firmware, you need to delete any lines shown below and save the file.


74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com


3. To verify you made the correct changes, open http://gs.apple.com in your internet browser to ensure that it redirects you to the Apple website.

4. Try restoring to iOS 5 again.
