Apple Quietly Releases Mass iOS Device Configuration Utility

Apple has silently released a tool that allows businesses, schools, and wealthy geeks configure iOS devices en masse. The Apple Configurator works with up to 30 devices at a time, and is capable of updating all units to the latest version os iOS, creating and restoring from backups, batch exporting apps, managing profiles, and enrolling the devices with a Mobile Device Management solution for remote management.

The tool is a must-have for anyone who needs to configure multiple devices with the same set of rules, and makes it easy to deploy many iPhones or iPads to a group of users without the hassle of setting up each device individually. Apple Configurator requires OS X 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.6, and paid applications should be purchased in bulk through the Volume Purchase Program.
