How to Install the 5.1 Firmware on an iPhone 2G/3G and iPod Touch 1G/2G

How to Install the 5.1 Firmware on an iPhone 2G/3G and iPod Touch 1G/2G ? If you have an iPhone 2G or 3G, or even the 1St or 2nd gen iPod Touch, you aren't running the latest firmware (5.1). This method is the best method out there (others make your device slower) unfortunately this also makes your device Jailbroken, most of us are Jailbroken though.  Let's begin.

*WARNING! YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA SO BACKUP EVERYTHING*

Requirements:

iReb r5

WhiteD00r Firmware

iTunes 10.6

Your USB dock connector

How to How to Install the 5.1 Firmware on an iPhone 2G/3G and iPod Touch 1G/2G:

First download all the thing that are required. When downloading the WhiteD00r firmware (on the iPhone) if you have a  SIM card in your device select the normal mode, if you don't have a SIM card or have unlocked your device select the Unlocked mode. Wait for the firmware to finish downloading. Also plug in your iDevice to you computer using the USB dock connector.

Once everything is downloaded, run iReb r5 and select your device. And boot it up in DFU mode. If you don't know how to do that here's how:

Power off your iDevice by holding the power button until you see slide to power off, then power it off.

When the screen goes blank, hold the power button and and home button for 10 secconds.

Now let go of the power button but keep holding the home button until iReb detects it.

You know it's in DFU mode when the screen is blank.

It is now in PWNED DFU mode, since you used iReb r5. Now wait for iReb to finish. Open up iTunes. iTunes will say it is in recovery mode just click "ok" and click on "iPhone" or "iPod" then hold down the shift key and click restore.

Now locate the WhiteD00r firmware and select it. Now it will go through the normal restore process. When it has finished it will simply reboot. When the reboot has finished you will see something say "Boot Neuter 2.1″ and wait for it to finish loading everything. Now it will reboot once again. If you want the wallpaper, go into the setting app and add the wallpaper.

Done!
